More “Christian” television. His voice is fluid, his message well-practiced from much repetition. On television today prosperity preacher Mike Murdock encouraged his viewers to send in one thousand dollars because the Lord, he claimed, would raise 300 millionaires from those who sent–credit cards welcomed–the cash, uh, seed…
Mike Murdock further proclaimed a curse upon himself if this message was not of the Lord.
Well, I want this television out of our house. This is the fifth day we have had it, and it ain’t good. Incredibly, horribly, I have a feeling I am going to keep watching and chronicling “Christian” TV.

I watched TBN until 1am. I haven’t watched television for some years (not counting the Super Bowl at friends etc.), and it is amazing what families are now watching. But I stuck with TBN. Were I to judge by TBN alone, I would say there is a famine of the Word.
Watching Benny Hinn give his “warning,” after so many years of anti-Biblical teaching and healing hysteria, was surreal. There is no other word that fits–it was surreal.
We watched Kim Clement dare to claim he was prophesying in the Lord’s name. My wife could hardly endure it.
Probably the saddest thing was watching a local pastor of a once thriving (prosperity) church. His predecessor had left for Texas and TBN, for the Big Time, and he was left trying to pick up the pieces. His whole sermon was aimed at giving–tithing. Dollars were down. He seemed like a sincere man in a role God never intended, trying to resuscitate a church that was not necessarily in the will of God. My sense throughout my night of viewing was that many were trying to make things happen apart from God.
Another local church, on late at night, placed comfortable chairs on stage and had a counselor/guest, as if it were some sort of talk show. Again, this was a church going on their own understanding.
It’s happening rapidly now. And we are being warned. This is why the Lord is calling His people out of 12 Step heresy, and warning about The Shack, and reminding us about His Word. We will see the rise of contemplative churches, emergent/homosexual alliances, and much else.
This is not the time to abandon prayer, or His Word, or fellowship. This is the time to pray for the mercy of God.

Thank God for your article. I attended AA as a born again Christian. At first, it seemed like it was the answer. I had a relapse and was told by AA that it was because I stopped going to meetings and did not have a sponsor. I ended up in Detox for 5 days, came out and returned straight back to AA. That is when I really started to feel something was not right. I kept thinking that I had prayed to God for healing and I was healed, by faith in Christ. Yet AA still kept telling me I will never be healed and will drink again if I stop attending. Then I joined a Big Book Study and became depressed each week it was time to go. I started feeling uneasy about it all. I soon heard people talking about other members and making fun of their relapses…saying things like so and so has a pocket full of new comer chips. Yet they would rush the person and give them all these hugs. I heard people curse the likes of which just pained me. Taking the Lords name in vain. It was like a social hour. People would talk about all the other drugs they were on while proclaiming AA saved them……And for a while, I was going around telling people that everyone should be in AA just for the love and support…… Then I slowly begin to discern that I was amongst people not right. And, God has since been showing me that I may have a gift for discernment as well. Anyway, I left AA and have not had a drink sense…almost 9 months. No one ever called or checked on me, yet these were the same people telling me what I needed and that it was them and AA. I think God sent me to AA for a reason no doubt. But I credit God and only God with my recovery. I do not need AA or any 12 step program. If God has healed me and I return to man’s way, then that is a slap in the face to God. Lastly, I also noted that although every meeting I attended was held in a church, I could not find any members who actually attended the church. Nor, were they ever any pastors or church leaders conducting meetings. That also seemed odd to me. And just last night for some reason I was thinking about this, and today I just happen to read this article. So, you see for me, God provides all the encouragement, support, open doors, etc. that I will ever need. Oh, one more thing, I am NOT an alcoholic. Maybe I once was, maybe I just had no faith and became a heavy drinker. Whatever people want to label me, that is fine. For I am a child of God. And I did say that at one of the meetings and I hushed up the room. If you want to stop drinking, ask God, if he sends you to AA, try and discern the teachings, observe the people and then ask God to show you how to stop. He will. He did. |

Musing: While most Christians today are ignorant about Bible prophecy, many have no qualms about seeking the predictions of psychics, horoscopes, tarot cards, tea-leaf readers and other such methods. These are very evil practices in God’s sight. In fact, He forbids it.
There shall not be one found among you…who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorceror, or one who casts a spell, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord… (Deuteronomy 18:10-12a)
DID YOU KNOW: God occasionally allows the predictions of such evil methods to come true. That’s right. Accurate psychic readings etc. are occasionally permitted by God–but not for their affirmation. Rather, God is using it to test you! To see whether you’ll return to the psychic or whether you’ll repent and turn back to the Lord God and cling to Him instead. (Deut. 13:1-4) May I suggest this is one test we’d better never fail!

My wife and I helped a friend move out of his apartment. We plugged his television in at our place. After some years without TV, I had some TBN to analyse…One of my favorite sayings used to be if I could nuke the TBN satellites, without anyone getting hurt by falling debris, I would.
Now, Way of the Master is featured on the station, and a few other Biblically sound programs as well. Still, some things never change, and this frequent call to “sow your seed,” meaning send money to various ministries, was a frequent part of the “shows” we watched.
Benny Hinn, perhaps reacting to repercussions from the Todd Bentley fiasco, warned about being deceived! He stuck to the Word! I’m not going to bring up past statements etc., and my caution remains. But, in this one sermon, he preached the Word. For that I praise our King. His audience seemingly did not know how to deal with this, this call to seek Truth only from the Word of God.

A.A. cofounder Dr. Bob Smith certainly did read the Bible. Yet, as Susan Cheever states, “Bob began every morning with meditation and prayer and twenty minutes of Bible study. Like Bill, Bob believed in paranormal possibility and the two men spent time ‘spooking,’ invoking spirits of the dead.”[2]
Early AA member Tom Powers saw the AA cofounders firsthand as they engaged in spiritualistic practices the Lord detests. (Deuteronomy 18:10-12) “Now, these people, Bill and Bob, believed vigorously and aggressively. They were working away at the spiritualism; it was not just a hobby.”[3]
It is not well known that Dr. Bob was a Mason. Suspended in 1934, he gained reinstatement after being sober for some years.[4] According to John Weldon, “The truth is that Masonry is a distinct religion that espouses teachings incompatible with Christian faith in the areas of God, salvation, and other important doctrines.”[5]

A.A. cofounder Bill Wilson “felt that no one should have to believe in any particular faith or dogma; that each member was entitled to a personal interpretation of the words ‘God as we understand Him,’ including the concept of the group as a ‘Higher Power.’”
So writes Pulitzer Prize winning writer (and A.A. member) Nan Robertson, author of ‘Getting Better: Inside Alcoholics Anonymous.’ (pg.124)
According to the Word of God, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe is judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:16-18)
Robertson further notes Bill Wilson’s “own life was filled with religious and spiritual ambiguity and consumed by the search–never again rewarded–for the exalting and transforming ecstasy he had experienced in 1934. Almost to the end, he engaged in serious experiments with spiritualism, hallucinatory drugs such as LSD, and megavitamin doses of niacin.” (pg.124, emphasis mine)
